My last fight was against Juliette Winter for the Flyweight British Title over ten rounds at York Hall, Bethnal Green on September 29th 2006 (shown on Channel 5 a week later). I won the first ever professional female British Title in sporting history.
The fight befor was against Julia Sahin in Hamburg, Germany on April 8th 2006 for the WBC World light flyweight title. It went the full scheduled ten rounds and she went down in the second (even though her glove touched the floor - it wasn't scored as a knockdown).
A week before the fight I tore my calf muscle in a sparring session... so I was on crutches up until two days before the fight but I truly believed I could get through the ten rounds. I mixed great physio with Kevin Lidlow with positive mental thoughts plus damn good strapping! I had to make it down to 7stone 10 and I couldn't run or train for a week so had to wear bin bags all day of the weigh in and shadow box whilst sitting on the edge of my bed!)
But, I went the ten rounds and was throwing and landing more punches than Sahin. I dominated the fight and didn't go backwards (as it hurt more to push off the front foot to move backwards) but I was in Germany against a German and you don't get any favours over there!
I'm not sure when my next fight is as I have to get a spinal MRI done as I have bad neural damage in my neck, which is also affecting my wrists. So, I will have to keep you updated with the progress. |
